Metallic foil is an interesting option to make packaging or labels look more valuable and exclusive. Metallic foils have a shiny mirror-like surface and make packaging stand out. Metallic foils are usually printed to mimic a metallic look. Most people immediately think of metallic colours such as gold, silver, bronze and copper, but metallic foil is also available in bright (unnatural) colours such as purple, red, blue, green. Metallic foils can also have a satin, matte or gloss finish in addition to a shiny mirror-like look. The glossier the foil, the better the metallic foil reflects light. This works well for small design details and creates a catchy effect.
How do we print metallic foils?
Metallic foil is applied to the print by means of foil stamping. At Vrijdag Premium Printing we apply foil by means of heat and pressure. This technique is also called hot stamping foil, hot foil, hot foil stamping, hot stamp or hot foiling. The effects of foil stamping are extremely popular. The foil is transferred onto the underlying paper or cardboard by means of a cliché (metal plate). Heat and pressure smooth out irregularities and any roughness of the paper or cardboard used.
How many different metallic colours can be printed?
We offer a range of different metallic foil colours. These can be realistic metallic colours, but neutral or bright vivid colours are also possible. It is also possible to choose a satin/matte, glossy or mirror-like finish. Depending on this finish, the colour tone differs.
Can metallic foil be printed on paper and cardboard?
Yes, metallic foil can be printed on almost any paper and cardboard.
Are metallic foils durable?
Metallic foil consists of a plastic carrier and a wafer-thin metallic layer. This metallic layer of a few microns thick is transferred to the paper or cardboard. A pilot is currently underway to recycle and reuse the plastic carrier.

Do metallic foils combine well with other printing effects?
Yes, metallic foil combines well with other printing effects. Examples of this are metallic foil with embossing or metallic foil with micro embossing. By combining different printing effects, it is possible to provide packaging or labels with a unique look. It can produce spectacular results!
